About Us

Advocating for equity and opportunity for people in marginalized and underserved communities.

We center our work on the safety, dignity, and well-being of individuals and families. Yet for many communities, structural barriers and inequities continue to limit access to safety, opportunity, and stability.

Guided by the legacy of Congresswoman Carrie Meek, The Carrie Meek Foundation is committed to building safer, stronger, and more resilient communities. Through strategic investment, partnership, and community-centered solutions, we advance equity and address the root causes of violence and instability across four core pillars: Education, Health and Wellness, Affordable Housing, and Economic Mobility.

We work to empower residents, strengthen local organizations, and support initiatives that foster safety, dignity, and long-term well-being across the communities we serve.

The Carrie Meek Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)3 whose mission is to advance Congresswoman Carrie Meek’s vision for civically engaged, well-resourced and resilient communities. We help improve the lives of residents in Miami-Dade County and the larger South Florida community through Education, Housing, Health, and Economic Development. Throughout her educational career and her distinguished tenure in state and federal office, Congresswoman Meek faithfully advocated for equity and opportunity for people in marginalized and underserved communities. Committed to taking bold, transformative steps, Congresswoman Meek has worked tirelessly to improve the quality of life and create opportunities for all, especially the young, minorities and the disadvantaged.

Her early years in Tallahassee, Florida, shaped the fighting spirit that carried her all the way to Washington, D.C. In 1992, Congresswoman Meek became the first Black lawmaker elected to represent Florida in Congress since Reconstruction.
