Miami Dade College Announces Carrie P. Meek Endowed Teaching Chair Recipient

The Endowed Teaching Chair is Miami Dade College’s highest recognition of honor for its faculty. Faculty members, who have demonstrated excellence in teaching, are awarded grants of 7,500 for 3 years to explore teaching methods and develop new projects.


Alisa J. Pitchenik, M.F.A.Senior Associate Professor New World School of the Arts


Alisa Pitchenik is an associate professor of visual arts and the director of the Electronic Intermedia Collage B.F.A. Program at the New World School of the Arts (NWSA) where she has taught since 1998. She received her M.F.A. from the school of Visual Arts in New York City. She also holds a B.F.A. in painting and arts history from the University of Miami, where she taught briefly, as well.


Currently she is a multi-media interdisciplinary artist, curator and collaborator. She has exhibited or curated/juried for museums, galleries, film festivals, television, Internet and alternative spaces in New York, California, Florida and Italy and encourages her students to do the same. She taught in the first initial artistic/ cultural exchange programs for Italy and Mexico bringing technology and fine art to the students and professors at the universities she visited.


Collaborating with the NWSA dance division, Pitchenik participated in “Hand Across the Ocean: The Lost Chord,” an Internet 2 project that won the Inaugural Peoria Prize for the Creativity in the Arts and Sciences. She is an ACM Siggraph member and recently curated Fortune and freedom, an exhibition at SOHO studios that included the work of more than 22 artists working across different mediums. Due to her commitments to teach fine art and technology in Miami for more than 10 years, Pitchenik will be included in the upcoming book Miami Contemporary Artists, which will be released during the 2007 Art Basel Miami Beach.
